Well folks, it’s the Friday before the election, and we’re all Getting Out The Vote. And just like a bug up your butt or sand in your lady bits, nothing has been as irritating as one Governor Sarah Heath Palin. For the last Palin-soaked LOL roundup, we give you a few of the best vids and sites. Enjoy! And don’t worry, we’ll still be here after the election. So many ways to define feminism, so little time. After looking at word clouds I started thinking about Gov. Palin’s speeches and use of language. While not a perfect comparison, I did wonder how her word use would match up against Senator Clinton’s speech. This is likely inspired by a story I saw on how Clinton Supporters don’t like Palin.

Despite Gov. Palin’s lack of knowledge on Supreme Court cases (or possibly because her limp understanding), I’ve become more sensitive to reading the news on it.  On Monday, the Supreme Court announced its annual docket, or all it’s cases for the year. I noticed that one of the cases being decided was on pregnancy discrimination. Some might call this case “Ledbetter II”, as it followed Lilly Ledbetter’s case last year against Goodyear. (Ledbetter lost.)  Both cases involve gender-based wage discrimination. Continue Reading »

Governor Palin needs to get her designer glasses checked.

Nico Pitney at HuffPo does a great post on the real misquoting of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Albright actually said “There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t help other women.” Every time Gov. Palin tries to evoke the name, image or support of feminists who have been working on issues completely opposed to her actions and policies, I want to scream out loud. (Often I do, and it’s scaring cubeland.) Given how the polls are doing, I don’t think women voters are falling for it.

Note: I added the “NOT” in front of Albright’s name to indicate that this is my tweaking of the quote. This is highly inspired by what I interpret as the spirit of Albright’s original quote, but of course she didn’t say this. And I hold her original quote very close to my heart.

Let’s think about this.

Governor Palin’s family make a total income that puts them in the top 10% of all American family incomes.  As the Associated Press put it, “Sarah Palin is the breadwinner and husband Todd is, well — he takes a lot of deductions for his fishing and snowmachine racing careers.”

Laura McGann of The Washington Independent reported the Palin family, even though they don’t need it, can apply for free medical care under the Alaska Area Native Health Service, since Todd Palin claims Native American ancestry.

Our friend Cindy at Don’t Gel Too Soon calls it “chicanery” which is the perfect word for the level of personal attacks we’re going to see in the next week.  I guess when the Republican machinery realizes that their being crushed under the weight of their own lies, they start making “character attacks”.

I don’t care how many times you say Maverick and Joe Six Pack, the voters aren’t buying it, Sarah.  Go ahead and admit you’re NOT like us.

Today Feministe posted this video of Shelly Mandell, president of the Los Angeles chapter of NOW, endorsing Sarah Palin as the next Vice President.

Ms. Mandell, can I ask you something? Other than ANWR, what exactly do you and Sarah Palin see eye to eye on? Sarah Palin is diametrically opposed to pretty much everything that NOW holds near and dear. You’re off your meds right?

I dumped the transcript from the debate last night in to TagCrowd, and the results are below:

Words Sen. Biden used during the debate.

Words Sen. Biden used during the debate.

Words Gov. Palin used during the debate.

Words Gov. Palin used during the debate.

Both candidates seemed to heed the conventional wisdom of many observers and pundits, and said “john McCain” an awful lot. Interesting to also note that Sen. Biden seemed to say ‘Gwen’ a fair amount, and it doesn’t pop at all for Gov. Palin.

Also Plutonium Page at Daily Kos used Wordle to create this word cloud.

Thoughts? Looking forward to your comments!

The fabulous Myrna the Minx from Reno and It’s Discontents captured some reactions to Gov. Sarah Palin. Myrna also talked to one of her local Congressional candidates, Jill Derby, who let us know why Gov. Palin is Not Her Gal. And she also mentions her favorite Supreme Court case – maybe she should be Vice President some day!

From the great Colorado Independent, Naomi Zeveloff reports on a focus group run in Dever, CO.

“Forty-two women have gathered in a downtown Denver office to watch the debate and then answer questions in two focus groups. They’ve been directed not to speak during the event, but here at The Colorado Independent, we’ll assess their on-the-spot reactions to Palin and Biden by watching their facial expressions.”

What follows is a really interesting, minute by minute live-blog of the women in the focus group during and after the debate.  Click here for the full and fascinating recount.

It’s 2am and I should get to bed, but I wanted to quickly tell you what we’re up to. My head’s spinning a little from the debate still.  A group of us women in battleground states got together and decided to vlog what we were thinking.  Really, vlog is the ugliest word ever, but it means video blog, so video media instead of just words.  Our sisters will be posting dispatches from the field in states including Nevada, Colorado, Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Florida and Washington, D.C. Please let me know in the comments if you’d like to participate.

Biden and Palin faced off for the only VP debate.
