Lilly gets dissed. AGAIN. And 14 babies is too much.

It really does feel a little bit like Groundhog Week.   As much as women move forward, we seem to move back as well.

We started a weekly feature here at Not My Gal, asking readers to vote on their Gal/Not their Gal of the week, and the results are in:

pollfeb2-2

Starting with our Gal Lilly Ledbetter — this was a great week for her – the first legislation signed in to law by President Obama was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.   If you haven’t heard her tell her story, People for the American Way did a great video.   But what still burns my ass is continually upsetting is she’s not going to get her back pay.  Punditmom suggests starting a petition to ask Goodyear if they can exhibit some corporate leadership and pay Lilly her due.  We’ve also started a Facebook group, so I hope you’ll join us.  If we don’t put some pressure on Goodyear and other organizations for delivering on the idea of fair pay, all of our agitating and activism is meaningless.

We also gave love to Gladys Hardy – caller-in to the Ellen DeGeneres Show-  who may or may not be real.  We also love us some Ashley Judd, who’s helping Defenders of Wildlife. Less splashy but still Our Gal is Representative Diana DeGette, who’s taking on the Republican hate machine and has a great post at Disruptive Women in Healthcare.  She’s also published a book on Sex, Science and Stem Cells and how the Religious Right and Conservatives distort medical truths.

We also did some hatin’ this week.  Nadya Suleman, or the notorious Octuplet Mom, was decidedly NOT our Gal this week. Suleman delivered eight babies after having multiple embryos implanted.  She also had six children before giving birth, which means she’s now the proud mother of fourteen children.  Kate Gosselin from the reality TV show  Jon & Kate Plus Eight says that people will judge you for using your body like a clown car the demands that such a large family might have on a person.  News of Suleman’s epic birth arrives at the same time that so-called political moderates on Capitol Hill are cutting programs that hurt women and children more than any other group.  Moreover, the job loss numbers are not looking good.

Danica Patrick disappointed us with her involvement in the highly sexist and not funny GoDaddy ads.  What’s interesting is that feminists and some faith-based organizations and churches are yanking their business from GoDaddy.

Finally, Brenda Warner wife of the Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, is Not Our Gal because she was part of a political ad against stem cell research.  And we didn’t like her fake blonde extensions during the Superbowl.  Yeah. I said it.
